GSC Cinema Application

I just went back from GSC cinema and watched Goosebump at Alamanda Putrajaya. This is the first time i bought the cinema tickets using online application. Beforehand, I don't really bother about this kind of applications because i still get used to the traditional way of queuing up in a long queue by the counters. Well, it is weekend so when my friend asking me to go out and watch movie this morning, Im quite reluctant to go knowing that there must be a lot of people watching movies on weekend and would be troublesome in getting the ticket. Then he suggest to book online to make our outing ease and fun. So i downloaded the GSC application to my phone and incredibly it's work at the first time! Then when i went through the functions, it convenient and of course fast. I managed to booked two tickets online and GSC send the verification barcode. Reaching the cinema, my friend and I just line up and scan the barcode. And yes we were in the cinema with hassle free! No queuing up, paperless and it is so much time saving. So start from today, I will continue use this application to make my life more easier. Why not!

Outsourcing Information System as What We Did in Royal Malaysian Customs!

Let's don't make it too formal here, recently I have read one good article on Outsourcing Technology by Paul F.Takac (1993) and get it from Emerald Insight. Well, it's normal on how the article of academician will looks like, there will be the introduction, some literature reviews and the finding but let's we talk about what is actually outsourcing first.

From the wikipedia, outsourcing  involves the contracting out of a business to another party. To easy understand, outsourcing is just like other people from other organisation is doing a part of our business and we will pay them with a huge numbers of money! Technology changes is a common reason why businesses need to outsource their information system in a way to enhance their services and performance.

Paul F. Takac stated that in 1993, recent survey found out that financial institution are generally more interested in outsourcing than organisations from other industries. And from it, 56% of them outsourcing some or all their MIS functions. Well, it's proven that outsourcing information system is a vital for businesses to survive since now and then, and it become a trending nowadays not only for financial institution but all over the industries. This is what we called the magic of technology. From no to yes, and from small to huge numbers!

Again, let's being academician for awhile, haha. The article has also stated of 4 categories on outsourcing. There are network service, service retention, service transfer and asset transfer. Basically, these process involved transferring of assets, networks and people from a user to a vendor. In Malaysia, there a few gigantic system outsourcing companies that provides systems to a wide range of businesses such as SISCO and Brilliant Info (BRINFO).

In my department, we are also using outsourced system for the major task in colecting revenue such as myGST and uCustoms. myGST was implemented by April this year and uCustoms is expected on late of 2016. Why do we outsource? Of course the cliche answer will be we don't have any expertise to build our on system because we are employed just to collect revenue and facilitate the businesses, not to built a system!

For myGST, it's a sophisticated system that integrate the taxpayers, banks and customs. The system for taxpayers is called TAP that u can simply log on to https://gst.customs.gov.my/TAP if you are the licensee for GST. And for customs user, the system that we used for processing data from TAP is Gentax that only can be access by the authorised customs officers.

TAP system for Taxpayers

Gentax for Customs GST

For the first implementation in April 2015, only Refund Module in Gentax that used to process the application of input tax claim by the licensee slightly having a problem. Most of the taxpayers are mad to customs and government as well for being unefficient. But the truth is not us, its the system by the way. Now the both vendor and customs is trying to solve the problems and hopefully by then, the GST refund will can be process efficiently.

So, the various trending of outsourcing can well be seen in our country. Even only with the outsourcing, I believed that Malaysia will be able to produce an IT literate society in a way to help  this country to develop as a leader in ICT in this region. Malaysia Boleh!
